Online therapy Group – Care Bridge – for adults caring for their aged relatives from afar.

Introducing the Care Bridge

The Care Bridge is a supportive and compassionate online group for adults caring for their aged relatives from afar. Organized and led by Red Door Counselling in Hong Kong, this free weekly Zoom session offers a safe space to share experiences, fears, and concerns related to distant care giving.

Starting Tuesday, August 26, 2025, the group will meet every week from 7:30 pm to 8:45 pm Hong Kong time. While based in Hong Kong, carers living outside Hong Kong are also warmly welcome to participate during this time.

Why join the Care Bridge?
Caring for aging parents/ relatives from afar can be emotionally demanding. Academic research shows that transnational caring often involves feelings of guilt, stress, anxiety, and emotional exhaustion due to the physical distance, cultural expectations, and complex family dynamics. Many carers struggle with balancing responsibilities, financial strains, and cultural obligations, often feeling overwhelmed despite their love and commitment.

The Care Bridge provides a nurturing environment where you can:

  • Share your experiences and feelings without judgment
  • Gain understanding and reassurance from others in similar situations
  • Receive guidance and support from our caring counsellors
  • Build emotional resilience and find strength through connection

This group is an opportunity to reconnect with your own well-being while navigating the challenges of caring from afar.

Format and topics:

The Care Bridge rotates sessions between a structured sessions and open forum sessions. In every session there will be dedicated time when we talk about recent updates, challenges and needs in the lives of our group members.

Open forum sessions focus on exploring a particular question or observation which key members may be able to talk about more than the counsellors. For example we will discuss how people find and choose resources to help their relatives, how they deal with certain specific challenges such a dementia, how we broach death planning, as well as questions about how members are managing their own emotional experiences. .

Structured sessions tackle specific topic. The session will often begin with some psycho-educational content about the key topic and tools that might help group members navigate the topic/challenge in a manner that is meaningful for them.
